Fragrance Allergen Information
Hey there! If you're curious about fragrance allergens in cosmetics, here's the scoop. In December 2022, the United States Congress passed the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA). This act requires all cosmetic makers to list any fragrance allergens in their products. While the FDA was expected to release their proposed regulations in October 2024, many believe the list will closely resemble the EU's fragrance allergen guidelines.
Under EU standards, allergens must be listed if they're present above 0.01% in rinse-off products and 0.001% in leave-on products. But, because I believe in making things easier and clearer for everyone, I’ve decided to list all fragrance allergens, even if they fall below these thresholds. After all, some individuals might still be sensitive to even the tiniest amounts.
Most of these allergens naturally occur in essential oils (like citral and limonene in citrus oils or linalyl acetate in lavender oil), while synthetic fragrance oils often combine natural and lab-made components for consistency and quality.
